Had a few friends to get their ticket Sat and the following is all they used.

Ham Academy 6.0
This is good stuff that coves all 3 classes with a offline testing system you can use on your PC.

For Extra Class Exam Study Materials

This study guide is very nice and complete.

Amateur Question Pools

For studying the theory behind all the electronics in this hobby I have the Navy NEETS books here.
http://www.cbtricks.com/miscellaneous/tech_publications/index.htm

This is all you need to study for your ticket no need in buying a CD or book to learn this.

Thanks Bennie.  I've been thinking of getting my license for years.  I might just cross over to the "dark side".

I used the QRZ on-line testing, but all I needed was a little refreshing because I have been putting it off for about 30 years. I would still be putting it off if I had not walked into a HAM FEST that was starting testing at that moment.
If you are new to the sport I suggest you do more than the practice test, get a book and read about your chosen sport.
Thanks Bennie!

I agree with wildcat,  I think anyone interesting in a Amarteur Radio Licence should buy a couple books from ARRL.NET.  This will give a better understanding of how radio works, and rules regulation.

Very true I meant the how to pass the Ham Radio test types of CD's and books.
Save your money to get books that are useful.

Now books on Ham Radio and electronics you can never have too many of them.
I have a few hundred electronics books I have collected over the years and will not part with any of them.

My most cherished book is RCA Victor Radiotron Designer's Handbook Fourth Edition by Fritz Langford-Smith.

I went to take my general test 2 years ago. Been a tech plus since 1990.
I was the only one at the session for testing.
After they graded my exam they tried to get me to take the extra test. I told them no thanks. I rather study for the test and know what I am taking. The responce from the team was "take the test and pass it, then you have a life time to study".

I still refuse but ask why did they wanted me to take it for. The guy said he could not tell me what I made on my general test but what they seen I would not have a problem.

It is good to study. You dont have to know everything, but it will make you a better operator. And when you have those little radio quirks, it comes in handy.

Sportmix,
It's WildRAT, I chew up wildcats and use them to fertilise my garden! Shot a few to when I lost my taste for cat.
Any of the test you take at the same sitting is free also once you pay the initial fee.
Some clubs will let you test for free like the club here in Clearwater, Fl.. I paid the fee for my test though in Melbourne Florida because I'm too lazy to go two miles away and take the free test.
Bennie my Dad gave me some old books that one you mentioned sounds familiar, I'll have to check and see what they are.

This is good info, but it's so technical i'm wearing a bare spot on my "noggin" from scratching it so much.  I always wanted to get my general license, but i guess i'm gonna have to study some more.  Thank you for posting it for us to look at!!

I think that this study guide is very good to learn with. The first 8 pages are full of BS credits and such but then it goes on to provide the things you need to know to pass the test in a very well laid out pdf file format complete with pictures and illustrations using the answers from the exam.

Check it out its very good.

http://hamelmer.com/Assets/Docs/Tech/HamElmer%20Technician%20Study%20Guide%202.1.pdf

More info is also on the site at: http://hamelmer.com/

Hope that helps - Dan w4dxy

i ref your site suggestions/ nuts!           just get the gordon west element 2, 3, 4 or 8. no need for busting the brain. besides your 5 friends who just got their tech tickets, the gordon west would had prepared them much, much better minus the madness.  following those sites i would have never got my tech ticket.
