You will need to connect an external speaker.
All you need for an antenna is a long piece of wire. The longer the better.
If you google this receiver you will find tons of info

I’ve got one of those old SX-99 receivers, pretty good old radios.
Mine use to be in good shape and worked good but got beat up when my shop was destroyed a couple years ago.  Doesn’t work now and I haven’t tried to repair it.

Those strings on the tuning coils are a biotch to put on alright, I had to replace mine.
The power cords didn’t last either, had to replace that many years ago.  That might be the reason the cord on yours is gone, someone could have cut if off for safety.

There are two sets of terminals on the rear of the radio. If yours are not marked,  the ones on the right are for the antenna, the ones on the left for a speaker.  I lost the paper work on mine and can’t remember the ohms of the speaker.  The original speaker with mine was almost as big as the radio.
Here's a pic of mine back when it was in pretty good shape.

thanks for the info gents. i like the wire antenna {cheap}. i was also thinking some one decades ago may have cut the power cord due to some hazard inside and they didnt want any one plugging it in. i am glad to hear its a decent unit and worth saving. after the amount of dust and dirt i got out of it and the mess on my table i was having second thoughts. but it cleaned up nice. crack in the s meter but no big deal. the transformer looks a bit rusty and rough. makes me wonder about that cord.?? any way to test it?

just curious...

what type of antenna connection does this have??

My Home Theater has a AM/FM receiver and the antenna supplied was just a 3 foot single wire but the antenna connection itself is a PAL jack. I went to radio shack and got a PAL to F adapter and I use rabbit ears with a UHF hoop on it and it pulls in signals EXCELLENT!

just food for thought!

It just has screws for wires.  Here's a pic of the back side of my old beat up one.

perhaps a 75-300 ohm balun could work on there and some rabbit ears such as the ones I use could work?

The "A2" terminal already has a jumper wire to ground on it. To feed a coax cable into the antenna, the center wire goes to A1, and the shield goes to ground, WITH the wire jumper from A2 to ground.

And if you use 300-ohm twinlead to feed an antenna, remove the ground-jumper wire, and connect one wire of the twin lead each to A1 and A2.

Consider also that many of the 300-to-75 ohm baluns provided by cable companies over the years will contain a rejection filter for 27 MHz CB interference. Won't want one of those in line if you are interested in hearing 27 MHz on it.

Well any luck? This thread a little dated...but with me pictures are worth many words. I am restoring Drake L4B amp right now. I have 2 Heathkit transceivers(HW-100 & HW-101a) I am testing tubes, cleaning up. I have to install new tuning belts on both, but they are cheap...so no big deal....by the way I paid $17.00 each for the Heathkits at an auction few months back. The HW-101a had All the tubes still in her. I could part them out for more than that. Grin

well i got side tracked on other projects and the old sx 99 has not moved in some time. but it is clean now and put back together, i still need to put a plug on it and see if i get a smoke cloud or not. if not then i will go on with the tune belts. honestly i wish some one that knew these units was near by and bored  Cheesy  normally if i cant get something working ahead of losing interest  i just sell it or junk it. but i really like the sx 99 its a smooth looking old unit. when i think of an old radio it just seems to be what i picture in my mind. so i have not lost the urge to get it working yet.
