plan to do the 11M mod but need to get the power going on this one. need a few thoughts on some substitute parts since to me its easier to modify than pay the price...

has anyone subbed a 2sc1969 in place of a 2sc1945? i can have 2 matched pair of 1969's for the price of 1 matched pair of 1945's... if anyone has, i can make my 1307's work if i have to.

has anyone subbed a 2sc2290 in place of a 2sc2097? RFParts says sub for a 2sc2782 but were talking a HF transistor vs a upper VHF transistor and the 2290 looks closer, in a way or 2. Stryker 440HP had the 6 tab M1104 and they modified to accept a sd1446...

trying to figure on saving $30+ to bring this thing back to life then get on to modding for 11M.

TIA for any input... Grin

I've been lucky so far.  My '730 has been OK except for the well-documented failures of the preamp relay and miscellaneous coax shield breaks on various boards.  There is a Yahoo group dedicated to this model with lots of good info on it.  The only caveat I can think of is that it might not be such a good idea to mention the part about the eventual 11M conversion.   The group name is  Icom_IC730   and required a note to the list owner to join.
Surely I'm not the only penny-pinching ham out there, so there's gotta be someone else in the 140-or-so members there who will know.
And stop calling me Shirley.

well, i can say i know of some of the erks some hams would have on part of my plan Cheesy have plenty of my own for some fellow cb'ers around where i live. ham's and cb'ers have their issues but in a way, in cleanliness i side with hams. i ruffled some major feathers over at eham under this same screen name with no space. i as a greenhorn cb'er with the love for technical only inquired to the workings of a flyback transformer as used in 12v tube mobile. everyone was snoody except one ham who answered my question as it was stated. nothing more, nothing less. Grin was curious about how did it cause the switching transistors to flip-flop. Cheesy

mine has the dreaded preamp syndrome. checked the coax's and i have a tops of 5w pep. probably the finals but if drivers i figured to inquire also. its been taken care of except what seems a swr strike, person i got it off of for $100.

As for the preamp relay, it's no longer available, at least not by the original part number from Icom.  I talked to one of their senior techs two years ago while was the tech manager at an Icom dealership.  He said it's easy enough to just open up the relay and do the business-card-with-alcohol cleaning thing to it, making it gooder'n new.  I actually use Caig Deox-It and ProGold for things like that now, but alcohol works great as strictly a cleaner.
I'm PM-img you something now.

'Tater,
Glad it got there; use it in good health.  I've already gotten my "favor returned" by other members here who're sending me replacement pots for an old Courier Spartan; one has already sent me a Johnson 223 panel mic jack.  So this was a chance for me to kinda return *those* favors.
I'm sure this kinda thing finds its way around.  I was just glad to finally find someplace where I could actually help someone with something.
Enjoy!
BTW, if you find an affordable source for the new crystal, please let me know.  I don't think anyone makes rocks for under $40 these days  Cry
ttyl,

certainly will do... plan on seeing what could come of international crystal manufacturing. i know you can get high stability 10.240's and 10.695/10.6975's for about $22 last i heard. we'll see about the 50-something mhz one's for this. Grin would rather drop the 29mhz bands for 2 bands of cb range.

this is them http://www.icmfg.com/index.html
